Branch from a ring final circuit
WebJul 17, 2024 · I recently tested a kitchen ring main circuit during an EICR. I removed a socket in the kitchen for inspection and tested ring cont. The L-L and N-N was both 0.24 ohms. But when testing the ring continuity of the kitchen skts from the consumer unit the L-L is 0.24ohms and the N-N is 0.57ohms. I would check more of the sockets in the kitchen … WebJan 23, 2024 · @TooTea the ring final circuit with a 32A overcurrent device with 2.5 sq mm line conductors is undersized for a radial final circuit with the same rated protective device. A 32A radial would require 4 sq mm cable in most cases, but in all cases downrating is possible for other reasons. – Sam_Butler Jan 29, 2024 at 16:24 1

Greater lengths are possible with larger cable than the usual 2.5mm. In some relatively rare cases a lesser limit might be required. No great accuracy can be claimed since the location of the loads around the ring is unknown.
WebMar 25, 2024 · In principle I believe that one could wire a ring final circuit in 1.5mm cable protected by a 20 amp MCB. It is not a standard circuit, but that does not mean prohibited.
